FAQ
Common questions about your MyBitFrame device.
What is MyBitFrame?
MyBitFrame is a small, battery-powered e-ink display that shows your investment portfolio value in real time. It connects to your Wi-Fi, pulls live market data, and updates the screen periodically so you can always see your numbers at a glance.
How long does the battery last?
With hourly updates, the battery typically lasts several months on a single charge. The e-ink display only uses power when refreshing, and the ESP32 spends most of its time in deep sleep mode.
What assets can I track?
You can track stocks, ETFs, and major cryptocurrencies. Add your holdings through the web interface by scanning the QR code on the device's config screen, then the frame displays your total portfolio value.
How do I set up my device?
When you first power on the frame, it creates a Wi-Fi network called PortfolioFrame. Connect to it with your phone or laptop, open 192.168.4.1 in a browser, and enter your Wi-Fi credentials. The device will restart and connect to your network automatically.
How do I change the Wi-Fi network?
Press and hold the button on the frame for 3 seconds to enter config mode. If the current Wi-Fi is unavailable, the frame will automatically create the PortfolioFrame access point so you can configure a new network through the built-in web interface.
What currencies are supported?
MyBitFrame supports USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, CNY, and other major currencies. You can change the display currency at any time through the web interface.
How do I update the firmware?
Enter config mode by holding the button for 3 seconds. Open the device IP in your browser, then go to Firmware Update and upload the new .bin file. The device restarts with the new firmware automatically. You can download the latest firmware from the Firmware page.
How do I factory reset?
Press and hold the button for 10 seconds. The progress bar on screen will show when you've reached the reset threshold. This erases all stored data including Wi-Fi credentials and provisioning, returning the device to its initial state.
Is my data secure?
Yes. All communication between the device and server uses HMAC-SHA256 authentication. No passwords are transmitted over the wire. The device only sends its MAC address and receives portfolio data — no personal financial account details are ever stored on the device.
The display shows a connection error. What do I do?
A warning triangle on the display means the device couldn't reach the server on its last update. This is usually temporary — the device will retry on the next cycle. If it persists, check that your Wi-Fi router is online and the device is within range. You can press the button to force an immediate refresh.
